The report from the Workshop on the First Year in Engineering held at the University of Illinois on September 25, 2008 (WFYE 2008) is now available, with summary discussions and top recommendations from the six focus groups on Student Advising, Recruitment and Retention, Math & Science in the First Year, Humanities & Social Science in the First Year, Engineering Design, and the Student Experience Beyond the Classroom. iFoundry, together with the Undergraduate Programs Office of the College of Engineering, and the Academy for Excellence in Engineering Education (AE3) collaborated on this event, which aimed to stimulate discussion on the first year in engineering among faculty, staff, and students at Illinois and to create actionable items for moving forward on this process at Illinois.

The workshop exposed 80 faculty, staff, and student participants to interesting first-year curricula at Northwestern University and at Olin College of Engineering, and enhanced the ongoing efforts at engineering education reform at Illinois, of which iFoundry is a critical part. Email contact information, links, and references are included in this report to help facilitate this ongoing dialogue.
