As previously reported (here) the overnight iLaunch of the iFoundry class of 2013 will be held 22-23 August 2009 (Saturday-Sunday) starting at 9:00 am in B02 Coordinated Science Lab and then moving out to the 4H camp at Allerton Park in Monticello, IL by bus. The activity will be an intensive one-day introduction to iFoundry, the iCommunity, and iTeams with teamwork training and selection of iTeams by the incoming class.

iFoundry announces the official launch of a new Facebook page here. Many of the incoming iStudents and other UIUC engineers became fans during beta, but as of today the site is officially open for business.

iFoundry students will meet at 9:00am in Room B02 of Coordinated Science Lab (also referred to as CSL: 1308 West Main, Urbana) on August 22nd. At noon on Saturday, they will be transported to the 4H Memorial camp and will return to campus on Sunday in time for Quad Day. Students are encouraged to bring: bug spray, tennis shoes, sleeping bag (or bedding), a change of clothes and a YouTube ready camera.
The iFoundry overnight launch will give iFoundry students an opportunity to meet their peers as well as inform them about the iFoundry activities for the upcoming year. There is NO cost for this event. Students who have not yet registered for the overnight, should call the iFoundry office at (217)244-3821.
The iLaunch of iFoundry is taking place this Saturday morning, 22 August 2009, in B02 CSL. iFoundry co-director David E. Goldberg kicked off the proceedings with a talk entitled “Reflection on the Joy of Engineering on the Occasion of the iLaunch of iCommunity and iFoundry.” The powerpoints from that talk are available in the iFoundry slideshare site here or in the viewer below:

The incoming cohort of 93 freshmen in iFoundry form a community called iCommunity. The iCommunity is divided into four iTeams: Art & Engineering Design (AED), Services & Systems Engineering (SSE), Entrepreneurship & Innovation (EI), and Engineering in Service to Society (ESS). Each team has at least one iTeam faculty advisor (iFA), two iTeam student advisors (iSAs), and at least one iTeam corporate/organizational advisor (iCOA). For more information, download and read the iCommunity handbook here. At yesterday’s iLaunch, the iFAs introduced the available iTeams prior to the student selection process.
