The last call for participation at the 2010 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering & Technology (fPET-2010) to be held 9-10 May 2010 (Sunday Eve – Monday) at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO has been posted at philengtech.org. Register here for a great day of philosophy & engineering.
Professor Bill Hammack, iFoundry fellow, has created a series of videos in order to explain ordinary engineering questions to a general audience. In the following video, Professor Hammack uses his giant chopper to search for the perfect golf ball. He reveals the creativity of engineers by explaining how they devised a way to put liquid in the center of a golf ball. This video has been produced for iFoundry at the University of Illinois.
Jeano VerSchave, a 1997 UIUC grad, is in search of self-motivated, clever and hard-working engineers to assist with a new start-up company. VerSchave graduated from the EE/CS department and worked for Motorola after graduation before moving into a startup space. He is hoping to recruit UIUC graduate and undergraduate students to help him in his most recent start-up activity and is flexible with hiring. VerSchave is in need of both front-end engineers to work on Flash, Flex and iPad applications as well as back- end engineers to work with Java, Ruby or PHP stack. Both part time and full time positions are available and if interested, email Jeano VerSchave, jeano@jeano.net.
Professor Bill Hammack, iFoundry fellow, has created a series of videos in order to explain ordinary engineering questions to a general audience. In this video, Professor Hammack cuts a copper pipe from his ceiling to show the five properties of copper that make it the most important metal for our world: From clean water to electronics.
Michael DiTullo will be presenting on the UIUC campus 8 May 2010 in the Krannert Art Museum at 11am. DiTullo holds a BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He has done work for a diverse group of clients including Nike, Brand Jordan, and Burke Built Motorsports. He is currently the design director of One Star footwear at Converse. DiTullo is also a long time contributor to the design website Core77.com. To learn more about DiTullo and his work, visit here.
The 2010 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering, and Technology (FPET-2010) will be held on 9-10 May 2010 (Sunday evening through Monday) at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO. The event is an outgrowth of the WPE-2007 and WPE-2008 meetings held in Delft and London.
Philosophical reasoning has been important to the iFoundry conceptual framework and iFoundry co-director David E. Goldberg is one of FPET-2010’s organizers. More information is available at www.philengtech.org.
Professor Bill Hammack, iFoundry fellow, has created a series of videos in order to explain ordinary engineering questions to a general audience. Professor Hammack invades a cell phone store to show that the design of a mobile isn’t arbitrary. He illustrates the seven basic principles engineers use to create a useful phone.
iFoundry co-director David E. Goldberg presented a paper at the 2010 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering & Technology or fPET-2010 (www.philengtech.org) entitled “What’s Good for the Engineering Goose is Good for the Philosophical Gander.”
A four-student team is presenting their final project (user group: academic machinists) for User-Oriented Collaborative Design that was run in concern with Olin College (www.olin.edu). Follow live on twitter @deg511.
