Professor Bill Hammack, iFoundry fellow, has created a series of videos in order to explain ordinary engineering questions to a general audience. In the following video, Professor Hammack uses his giant chopper to search for the perfect golf ball. He reveals the creativity of engineers by explaining how they devised a way to put liquid in the center of a golf ball. This video has been produced for iFoundry at the University of Illinois.

UIUC in search of self-motivated engineers for start-up opportunity

Jeano VerSchave, a 1997 UIUC grad, is in search of self-motivated, clever and hard-working engineers to assist with a new start-up company. VerSchave graduated from the EE/CS department and worked for Motorola after graduation before moving into a startup space. He is hoping to recruit UIUC graduate and undergraduate students to help him in his most recent start-up activity and is flexible with hiring. VerSchave is in need of both front-end engineers to work on Flash, Flex and iPad applications as well as back- end engineers to work with Java, Ruby or PHP stack. Michael DiTullo will be presenting on the UIUC campus 8 May 2010 in the Krannert Art Museum at 11am.   DiTullo holds a BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He has done work for a diverse group of clients including Nike, Brand Jordan, and Burke Built Motorsports. He is currently the design director of One Star footwear at Converse. The 2010 Forum on Philosophy, Engineering, and Technology (FPET-2010) will be held on 9-10 May 2010 (Sunday evening through Monday) at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO.  The event is an outgrowth of the WPE-2007 and WPE-2008 meetings held in Delft and London.

Philosophical reasoning has been important to the iFoundry conceptual framework and iFoundry co-director David E. Goldberg is one of FPET-2010’s organizers.  More information is available at www.philengtech.org.
