In spring 2011, iFoundry is promoting a following suite of course offerings to iFoundry, iEFX, and all Engineering students. iFoundry supports efforts of colleagues in the College and other disciplines to pilot and offer courses which enhance the professional, creative and intellectual development of our undergraduates. On Sunday, 14 November 2010, students participating in the Engineer of the Future 3.0 conference will hold an Ignite presentation session. The session will be a fun, fast-paced series of short presentations given by “passionatics” on their ideas, passions, experiences, projects, and stories. On Thursday, 04 November 2010, various student advisors from Illinois Engineering Freshmen Experience (iEFX) held a seminar on professionalism for all iEFX students. The seminar advised students on how to survive in the professional world, covering topics like dress code, interviewing, resume writing, and proper etiquette at career fairs. The presentation may be seen in the viewer below:

On Wednesday, 27 October 2010, James D. Plummer, the Dean of Engineering at Stanford University, delivered the Dean’s Distinguished Lecture. The lecture was entitled, “Educating Engineers for the 21st Century”, and it primarily discussed how engineering education should be taught as students move into the future. The Engineer of the Future 3.o event (here) at the University of Illinois on Sunday-Monday 14-15 November 2010 still has room for a few more registrants. The event features a keynote talk by noted author Dan Pink (here) and celebrates the theme Unleashing Student Engagement in and for the Transformation of Engineering Education.
A note earlier today indicated that registration site was close, but additional capacity has been found, and the registration site (here) has been reopened.

Design Matters4 opens the 2010-2011 series with Professor Neil Gershenfeld of MIT, at 6:15pm on Thursday, 11 November in the Lawrence Plym Auditorium; Temple Hoyne Buell Hall, 611 E. Lorado Taft Drive, Champaign, IL 61820. Professor Gershenfeld is the creator of the FabLab network and will formally open the Champaign-Urbana Community FabLab prior to the Design Matters lecture from 3:00-5:00pm (Art Annex 2, 1301 South Goodwin Ave., Urbana). Both events are open to everyone. Design Matters 4 is sponsored this year by Autodesk Inc, the Department of Human factors, the School of Art and Design. Students, faculty, and administrators from universities domestic and international along with friends of engineering education from around the world will gather at the conference titled, “Engineer of the Future 3.0 (EotF 3.0): Unleashing Student Engagement in and for the Transformation of Engineering Education” to be held 14-15 November 2010 at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Conference site: The I Hotel). Author, Daniel Pink (whose works include the New York Times bestsellers, A Whole New Mind and Drive) will keynote on Sunday, 14 November at 5pm.
The viewpoint to be explored at EotF 3.0 is how to make students the prime movers of their own educations – as well as how to get student engagement to be a more powerful force in transforming engineering education. An article in the 15 November 2010 Daily Illini titled, “iFoundry encourages creativity in education” summarizes the goal of the Engineer of the Future 3.0 (EotF 3.0) Conference: “to remind students that they have control over their education and have the power to significantly affect others.”
EotF 3.0: Unleashing Student Engagement in and for the Transformation of Engineering Education was held 14-15 November at the I Hotel and Conference Center where over 300 registrants – made up of students, faculty, and administrators from universities domestic and international, along with representatives from industry – were in attendance.
