Are you interested in networking with engineering alumni, students, and faculty? Engineering Student Alumni Ambassadors (ESAA) is recruiting students for the 2011-2012 school year! Come learn more about what we do at our short info meeting, while eating some free pizza!
As an ambassador, you will serve as an official host for Engineering at Illinois in a variety of formal and informal settings. Become an ambassador to build your professional and leadership skills, network with engineering alumni and corporate representatives, participate in community and campus volunteer efforts, and support the College of Engineering in building relationships between engineering students and alumni.

Gotham City is under siege by crime. Working with your other student consultants, Batman needs you to rapidly redesign his utility belt to address problems presented by different villains! Come learn and apply user-centered design methods like storyboarding and personas to help Batman. These techniques can be used to design real and useful systems.
You don’t need any design experience to participate. We’ll teach ya.

We are pleased to announce that Cory Levy, friend of iFoundry, will be coming to the University of Illinois next week! Cory is an inspiring student and this will be a very popular event. Space is limited. Anyone interested in entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity and networking will especially interested in attending.
He will be speaking on Wednesday, September 7 from 3:00 – 5:00pm at NCSA 1122. This will be a great opportunity to hear from Cory Levy , the Co-Founder and COO of One. One is a mobile application that allows you to personalize your world wherever you are. One raised over $1 Million in seed funding from top tier venture capitalists, making Cory one of the youngest people ever to raise venture capital. Prior to One, Cory interned at: TechStars, Union Square Ventures, and the Founders Fund. Cory studied at the University of Illinois for one year and is now on “leave” to focus his time on One.
Also, you are invited to join us for a Pizza Session afterwards at 5:00pm in the NCSA Lobby. This will be a great chance to visit with Cory one-on-one.

Alternative Orientation is a day and a half retreat that provides incoming freshmen with the opportunity to explore leadership and community engagement in their new collegiate atmosphere. Led by real student activists at the University of Illinois, this team-building event is a great way to meet like-minded students, learn how to participate and develop skills as a leader. Make change in the world by identifying and solving real world problems while starting on your path of learning at the University of Illinois. Learn about the Social Change Model of Leadership, participate in a community service projects explore your personal strengths as a leader, and interact with campus leaders in a fun and productive environment. Alternative Orientation participants begin discovering their own path for creating positive sustainable change while at the University of Illinois and beyond. The program is FREE and open to any incoming student who is attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus in Fall 2011. Meals will be provided.

“As people struggle to balance their impulsive and considered sides, design may hold the key.” This design jam will focus on implementing IDEO’s “The Duality of Desire” pattern. We’ll guide you through different patterns of overcoming temptations, and we’ll conclude with your group storyboarding your favorite solution.

Plug and Play Tech Center is hosting “Plug and Play Startup Camp 2012″. They would love to have the University of Illinois represented in their 2012 session and therefore welcome all student entrepreneurs and university startups to apply to Startup Camp 2012!
Plug and Play Startup Camp is an intensive 10-week summer program designed to immerse university startups and entrepreneurs into the Silicon Valley environment through a combination of structured workshops, speaker series, mentorship sessions as well as active coaching.
Plug and Play Tech Center is a thriving Silicon Valley community of over 300 startups from all over the world. Their mission is to help startups grow.
The 2011 program concluded with the Startup Camp EXPO, a demo day that connected the venture capital and angel investor community with Startup Camp companies and provided them additional exposure. At the demo day, funding was committed to 4 of the participating companies! 10 companies comprising of teams from Stanford, MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Santa Clara, UC Irvine, UCLA and UC Berkeley graduated this summer. This included companies in the consumer-web, e-commerce, mobile, crowd sourcing and software space.
